Alvis Speed 20 SA, (beam axle cars) provides a pure exhilarating driving experience. Two companies provided coachwork as was customary in the early years of motoring. Firstly C&E with there four-door variant, along with VDP supplying, a more desirable two-door body style. This is one of the latter cars still proudly the original VDP coachwork this is confirmed from the Alvis build sheet, along with original body number stamped in the timber frame of the driver’s door this is cross-referenced with Brian Smith book on original VDP coachwork.
We sold the car in August 2018 to an English businessman based overseas. During the last few months, we have been overseeing various cosmetic improvements on behalf of the owner. The coachwork has just been all black, the chassis was also painted, along with repairs and re-chroming of the radiator, not forgetting other important detailing jobs like replacing the hinge pins, finally alteration of the pedals to modern standard (these can be reinstated). 5 new Michelin tyres were also fitted. The car really is really ready for the new owner to enjoy.
Prior to the above work s a more detailed restoration was undertaken during the last 15 years and. The file contains invoices to testify to this along with the recent works. A later SB engine was fully rebuilt and fitted during the restoration, the original engine being damaged beyond repair.
The body condition is excellent and the car drives well on the road. The leather trim and the weather equipment is in very good order and the car is ready for summer rallies of both a competitive and touring nature.
